Do I need a referral for physical therapy?
The Missouri Physical Therapy Practice Act determines how patients can access physical therapy services in the state of Missouri. Physical Therapists licensed in the state must act in accordance to the Practice Act as dictated by the Missouri State Board of Healing Arts.
SO, the answer in the state of Missouri is….
“It depends….”
YES you need a referral IF you:
Have a NEW injury never diagnosed by an approved provider
Have an OLD injury never diagnosed by an approved provider
Have a recurring injury previously diagnosed by an approved provider greater than 1 year of diagnosis
NO you do not need a referral IF you:
Recurring injury previously diagnosed by an approved provider within 1 year of diagnosis
Chronic illness (lasting greater than 6 months) previously diagnosed by an AMP
Fitness and Wellness Program for asymptomatic individuals
Education and resource training for asymptomatic individuals
Who is an approved provider?
Medical Doctor (MD)
Chiropractor (DC)
Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)
Physician Assistant (PA)
Dentist (DDS, DMD)
Podiatrist (DPM)
So what do I do if I want to see an MWB Physical Therapist?

If you fall in the “NO” category above, nothing else is needed. Schedule online or call today!
Ask your approved provider for a referral to MWB Physical Therapy. They can fax a referral to 855-574-0822 attn: Jennifer Banks, DPT.
Download “this referral” (link) and have your provider fill it in. You can fax it over or bring it with you to your first appointment.
